The Florida Deepwater Horizon Response report of June 10, 2010 reports that the oil slick is not currently moving toward the Loop Current.  Oil in the Loop Current could translate to oil in Palm Beach County, as the Loop Current circulates into the Gulf and moves south to the Florida Keys and the Gulf Stream. However, the FL Dept. of Environmental Protection reports that,

"Observations by NOAA continue to indicate no significant amounts of oil moving toward the Loop Current. The Loop Current Ring, a circular current which was formerly part of the Loop Current and contains a small portion of oil slick in the form of light sheens, has reattached to the main Loop Current after previously pinching off late last month. This reattachment has the potential to move a small amount of oil to the Florida Straits."

Palm Beach County does remain in a state of emergency, per Governor Crist. But the oil-free Loop Current is great news for Palm Beach County beaches, fishing, sea life, coral reefs, diving, water recreation, tourism, local businesses, boating, and real estate values - for the time being.
